Lisa's father was transferred from Ohio to Arizona in the summer of 1982. The week before the move he bought a guitar in a case at a garage sale in Parma for fifteen dollars. It was for her fifteenth birthday. The case said GRUMPY TEEN on the lid.
Her mother offered to paint over it. Lisa said no and closed her bedroom door. The band was formed by the end of the month, under the name already on the case, because it seemed to be taken by no one.
She wrote the songs on the back bedroom floor under the swamp cooler, which was louder than the guitar. She learned to sing over it. Her voice still carries.
Now. Civil engineer in Phoenix. Designs storm drainage. Considers it close to songwriting.
